4 Vedas in Hinduism- Rig-Veda, Yajur- Veda, Sama-Veda and Atharva-Veda

There are many ancient texts in Hinduism. But the Vedas in Hinduism has different place, it is considered as one of the oldest Hindu texts. The history of Vedas is ancient and were written around 2,500 years back. There is often a moot about Veda.

It was considered that there was only one Veda, the Yajur, but Yajur was later divided into four different Vedas. Rig-Veda is considered as one of the oldest Vedas of all time. In this article we will delve into various Vedas.

Another truth about Vedas in Hinduism is it is divided into two different parts, namely a Samhita and the Brahmanas. Mantras and incantations are included in the Samhita part. The incantations are mainly used for sacrifices. Nevertheless, these incantations are not a cup of tea to utter as well as interpret without the help of commentaries.

In such cases, Brahmanas are of great help. They are the ones who could explain the hymns. Brahmanas can delinate the descriptions of sacrifices and the procedure to be conducted. Likewise, they know how to conduct the Samhita.

Karma Kanda is referred to the Samhita and the Brahmanas. Therese parts are dealt as the rituals.

The Rig-Veda

The most significant and, as per researchers, most seasoned of the Vedas. It is partitioned into ten books (called mandalas) and has 1028 psalms in the commendation of different gods. These incorporate Indra, Agni, Vishnu, Rudra, Varuna, and other early or “Vedic divine beings.” It likewise contains the popular Gayatri mantra and the supplication called the Purusha Shukta (the tale of Primal Man).

The Yajur-Veda

A holy handbook for use in the presentation of yajnas (penances) It is separated into two areas, the prior “dark” and the later “white.” The Yajur Veda is also called the book of the rituals. Yajur Veda was the chief book to guide the priest and the Purohits in the Hindu religion who used to execute the religious and ceremonial activities.

Sama-Veda

Sama Vedas in Hinduism comprises of serenades and tunes to be sung during love and the exhibition of yajna. Sama Veda is also called the Book of Songs. The derivation of Sama Veda is from two words, Sama means Song and Veda refers to the knowledge. Sama Veda is considered as the roots for the classical Indian music and the old tradition of dances. Likewise, the tradition of dance is itself the archaic in the whole world.

Atharva-Veda

Atharva-Veda is yet another Vedas in Hinduism which containssongs, mantras and chants, generally outside the extent of yajna.

Inside every one of the four books there are four sorts of organization, or divisions, as demonstrated as follows. In the tightest of faculties, just the Samhitas contain the genuine Vedas. The initial two divisions identify with the exhibition of conciliatory customs (the karma-kanda area), while the subsequent pair comprises of theory (and have a place with the jnana-kanda segment).

  1. The Samhitas – in a real sense “assortments,” for this situation of psalms and mantras. They structure the Veda appropriate.
  2. The Brahmanas – exposition manuals of custom and supplication for the directing ministers. They will in general clarify the Samhitas. They additionally contain early forms of certain accounts.
  3. The Aranyakas – in a real sense “timberland books” for loners and holy people. They are philosophical compositions.
  4. The Upanishads – books of theory, likewise called “Vedanta,” the end or finish of the Vedas.

There are likewise two significant collections of advantageous writing, related near the Vedas themselves. They are:

  • The Vedangas, which elucidate the sciences needed to comprehend and apply the Vedas.
  • The Upavedas (generally considered smriti) which manage the four conventional expressions and sciences.
  1. Kalpa (custom detail)
  2. Siksha (elocution)
  3. Vyakarana (syntax)
  4. Nirukti (historical underpinnings)
  5. Chandas (meter)
  6. Jyotisha (cosmology/crystal gazing)
Aum or Om the Universal Sound

Aum or Om the Universal Sound

Aum or Om the Universal Sound

Chanting religious mantras has been there since the origin of yoga. The amalgamation of breath, sound, and chanting lead to the sacred bond between the human mind and the supreme being. Aum’ mantra or simply Om mantra, is a Sanskrit sound that personifies the cosmic energy. The Mandukaya Upanishad mentions that Om is anything that exists beyond the realm of time.

Aum and Hinduism

In Hinduism, Om links with the creation of the universe. We’ll not bore you with the lengthy details therefore, we’ll provide you an excerpt. Lord Vishnu sleeps on his Ananta shesh in the enormous ocean. From his belly button, a lotus flower emerges and, on that flower, Lord Brahma resides. Initially, Brahma has no idea what his purpose is or what he should do. Lord Vishnu advises him to create the universe with the tools he has given.

Lord Brahma goes into meditation and after eons, he hears a reverberating sound from the vast ocean. That sound is Aum. Upon hearing it, Lord Brahma uses the petals of the lotus and thus, commences his creation.

What is Pranav Mantra

The Aum mantra is synonymous with Pranav mantra. So, what is a Pranav mantra? Pranav mantra validates that the words we chant aren’t just plain but the manifestation of the supreme entity. To emphasize, it is the actualization of the Supreme entity in the form of ‘Maya’.

Meaning of Aum

The Sanskrit symbol Om is made up of three curves, one semi-circle, and a single dot. The three curves are linked with one another whereas the semi-circle and dot are independent. It is this dot that demarcates Om from other symbols. The Aum mantra is also given the status of ‘monarch of mantras.’

Let’s break down Aum into simpler from to understand it better

  • A: Creation
  • U: Sustenance
  • M: Destruction
  • Silence at the end: Transcendent

To put it another way, each sound that you create in Aum brings awareness in your body. It moves through the four conscious levels in your body. Initially, awareness arrives at the root chakra and you feel it echoing in your groin and lower pelvis. Sages believe that this is a materialistic world. Secondly, the sound moves upward from the spine and reaches the heart chakra. You are now in a world of dreams.

As you chant mmmm, the sound reaches back of the neck and you can feel the energy in the third eye. You have now successfully reached deep meditation. As you relax in the remaining silence, you are in the Crown chakra and the prevailing illusions that separate you from the universe are now gone.

In Aum, there are three states of consciousness. They are:

  • Vaishvanara: It focuses on the outer aspect
  • Taijasa: It is a state of dreams and looks inside the mind
  • Prajna: It is a state of deep meditation
  • Turiya: It is the silence after the aum

Significance Of Aum

  • When you chant Om, it cleanses your body and the surrounding ambiance.
  • It has healing powers that boost immunity.
  • Om awakens the hidden spirituality inside the individual.
  • The Om sound stabilizes the brain.
  • It increases your self-awareness levels.
  • It improves voice quality by enhancing the vocal cord.
  • The vibrations of the aum sound bring peace and tranquility to the practitioner.

Aum and Yoga

In most of the yoga classes, you might have seen practitioners saying Aum in the middle of postures. Yogis believe that if you listen to the sound with utmost concentration, then you can hear the universe expanding. Not all of us have experienced it but it does not mean that it’s not happening. The early mentions of Om is in texts that date back to 500 BCE.

The first paragraph of the Mandukaya Upanishad states that “The syllable Om, which is the imperishable Brahman, is the universe. Whatsoever has existed, whatsoever exists, and whatsoever shall exist hereafter, is Aum. And whatsoever transcends past, present, and future, that also is Om.”

The thought of staying still for an hour and saying Aum is frightening for many. Instead, why not spend 5 minutes a day practicing it and reap its benefits?

The Upanisad

The Upanisad

Upanisad- 13 main parts of Vedas

The origin of Hindu philosophy is Veda. There are four Vedas: Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda. Each Veda contains four layers of text: the samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas, and Upanisad. Each of these layers has varieties of combinations, however, Samhitas broadly comprises hymns praising Gods. The Brahmanas basically concerned with describing and elaborating Vedic rituals.

The Aranakas and the Upanisad are based on rituals while some sections of it deal with the intellectual and philosophical matters. The Upanisads are also stated as “the fourth and final chapters of Vedas” and reflects the highest purpose of Vedas. These Vedas have different parts. There are 13 main parts of Vedas which are termed as the Upanisad or the Vedanta. They are as follows

upanisad

4 Different Vedas which includes Upanisad

Rig Veda

Rig Vada has three main Upanisad:- Aitareya, and Kaushitaki. Rig Veda has 1028 hymns and 10600 verses, organized into ten books, called Mandalas.  The hymns are devoted to deities and have discussed cosmology. The origin of the Universe and Nature of God, the importance of Charity, and other metaphysical issues are the main interpretation of this text.

Sama Veda

Sama Veda has two main Upanisad:-  Chandogya and Kena. This veda is known as Vedas of melodies and chants. Varieties of music, chants, songs, dances etc are the products of Samaveda

Yajur Veda

Yajur veda is the Veda of prose mantra. It has six main Upanisad:- Brihadaranyaka, Isha, Taittiriya, Katha, Kshvetashvatara, and Maitri Upanisad. Basically it has two groups: Black (Krishna) Yajurveda and White (Shukla) Yajurveda. The word ‘Black’ implies “unclear, unarranged, variegated” collection of verses while ‘White’ implies just opposite meaning “clear, arranged, congruent”.  It consists veneration, worship, sacrifice and its prayer, particularly mantras etc.

Atharva Veda

Atharva Veda has three main Upanisad:- Mundaka, Mandukya, and Prashna Upanisad. This veda is a guideline in the everyday life. It is composed of 730 hymns and 6000 mantras, divided into 20 books. Atharva Veda covers varieties of topics like magical mantras for all types of healing, sorcery, worldly attainment and richness etc.

The original language of the Upanisad is Sanskrit, containing the central philosophical ideas and concepts of Hinduism. Some of the concepts are shares with Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. It has a key role in the progress of spiritual ideas, making amendment from Vedic style into new ideas and concept. The concept of enlightenment, ultimate truth (Brahma), supreme-soul (paramatma), soul (Atma, the self), karma and yoga, a theory of Karma, worldly existence, purusha (person), prakriti (nature), physical and metaphysical issues etc. are the main theory of it.

Besides, it consists ritual context, a foundation of life, what happens at the time of death, ways of life, the process of life and death, ways of interacting with other, nature and reality, working of the body, what is hell and heaven, what is Universe etc.

It includes vast range including explanation of ritual actions, creation of myths, mysticism, magical and supernatural formulae, genesis of ceremony, explicative conversation about popular teachers, students and royal families, ordering of teachers and disciples,   There are more than 200 Upanisad known, out of which first thirteen are considered as main Upanisads. It plays an important role to develop a discursive and intellectual language.

It has raised philosophical debates and questions by revealing different factors of attaining knowledge, including synthesis, analysis, comparison, deduction, introspection, retrospection etc. Among six Hindu Darshanas- Nyaya, Vaisesika, Mimamsa, Vedanta, Samkhya and Yoga; first four do not follow chronology above but they all matter all the vedic Upanisads as Sruti (a timeless revealed knowledge). Rest of the two Darshana Sankhya and Yoga are normally regarded as supporting the vedas.

The fundamental Upanishads were inscribed from about 900 to 300 BCE. The inscription of other different minor continued.  It has been found that hundreds of other texts with the name ‘Upanisad’.  Although test denoted as ‘Upanisad’ have been continued to compose up till the present time, the majority of the texts were composed between the 2nd and 15th centuries. Scholars have set these books in different groups corresponding to common themes, such as Saiva Upanisad ( Upanisad on Lord Shiva), Yoga Upanisad, Vaisnava Upanisad (Upanisad on God Vishnu), Samnyasa Upanisad (Upanisad on renunciation) etc.

Some Topics Covered by Upanishad

Among the widely discussed topics in Upanishad, Atma (Soul, the self) is one of the most important topics. The lexical meanings of Atma have covered a broad range including ‘breath’, ‘spirit’, and ‘body’. After the evolution of Upanishad, its meanings elaborated in various words like- an essence, a life-force, consciousness, energy, or ultimate reality.

A well-known teaching has been found in Chandogya Upanishad. A character, Udayakala Aruni, explains to his son Svetaketu that one can know Universal material substance from particular stuff. For example- by means of something made up of clay, one can know clay entirely; by means of an ornament made from gold, one can know the gold; by means of a needle; one can know iron etc

Objects are not created from anything but transform from one matter to another. Creation is influenced from ‘Satkaaryavaada’ theory which means the theory of cause and effects. Udayakala continued his explanation comparing a series of conclusion with experimentally observable natural process to reveal that the self is a metaphysical schema present in all living beings.

For that, he used honey as an example. Bees collect it from the different sources and gather together to make an undifferentiated whole.  Similarly water flowing from different rivers and cannels form the ocean without and distinction. The banyan tree cannot be seen in the seed.

The dissolved salt in the water cannot be seen. Likewise, the self, pervaded in the human body cannot be seen.  The phrase “you are that” (tat avam asi) is frequently used by Udayakala to explain that the soul (self) actuates the same way in him as it operates in all creatures.

The self is both tenor that connects the part with the Absolute and the eternal that remains static even while taking different forms or shapes. In this way, Udayakal explains about the self to his son as a life force that animates all creatures. Thus, the various subject matters have been discussed in Upanishad.

Nine Planets and Their Related Gems

Nine Planets and Their Related Gems

Astrology (Jyotisha) is a very famous subject in Hindu philosophy. It is the part of the knowledge from Vedas. Astrology is based on the planets of the solar system. Astrology believes that the energy of the planets can affect positively and negatively in our life. In the birth chart of the person, there are 12 houses with different placement of the planets. The birth chart is made by the date, time and place of birth. By the birth, chart astrologer can predict the future of a person, tell your past, remind your inner capacity and show the right path in your life.

A gem is not worn only for its brightness. Gem has the divine energy to solve the problems. Gems are related to the energy of the different planets of our solar system.  We have to wear gems according to the placement of the planet of our Birth chart. If the planet is positive in our birth chart but the planet is very weak to give a positive result, then we wear gems to accelerate the energy of the planet.

Each planet is in a different place in our birth chart and they move from one to another. All planets have their own time period to move from one house to another. Movement can bring the planet in different houses in certain time. The particular planet which is placed in the birth chart in the present moment can affect our life. All nine planets have their degrees and they give result by their power of the degree. Young planets can give the 100 percent of the result but infant and old planet can give the negligible result in our life.

We can decrease the negative effect and increase the positive effect of the planet by different remedies. Among them, gems remedy is very famous and easy to apply but we have to be very careful with it. We have to council with a very experienced astrologer before wearing the gem. Gem only increases the power so we have to wear the ring of the planet which is able to give us the positive result in our life and the planet is lower in its degree.

In the ancient time, the great sages knew the colour of every planet and identified the gems according to their colours. Gems can connect with the energy of the planets and increases the effect of the planets in our body. Every planet has their different types of gems. Gems can capture the energy of the planet and helps to enter the energy in our body.

Buddhism

Buddhism

Buddhism is a concept of the religion founded by Gautam Buddha. It is not only a religious belief but also a spiritual practice and spiritual tradition. 7 percent of the people of the world are Buddhist. Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal, 563 BC. He got enlightened and started to spread the message of peace to the most of the Asian countries so he is called as the ambassador of peace of Asia.

The main philosophy of Buddhism can be categorized into three parts. They are four noble truths, eightfold paths, and Pancasila. The Buddhist philosophy is written in three Tripitakas. Three Tripitakas are:

  • Binaya Pitak: This is the scripture of Buddhism which includes the rules for the monks and nuns.
  • Shukti Pitak: This part of Tripitaka has the sermons of the Buddha.
  • Abhidhamma Pitak: This is the book of the collection of the philosophies of Buddhism.

Here are the four noble truths of Buddha:

  1. There is suffering in life
  2. There is the reason for suffering
  3. There is the way to be free from the suffering
  4. The way of being free from suffering is eightfold paths

  1. There is suffering in life:  Suffering is the part of our life which is inseparable for everyone who is born in this world. We are born here with the suffering. We have to be in suffering in our life until and unless we don’t get enlightened. Buddha focused on the fact that life can’t be imagined without suffering. Suffering is as true as our life is. It is said that who is enlightened, he or she should not be born in this world. If we have some Karmic debt, we have to born here in this world.

  1. There is the reason behind suffering: Buddha’s teaching always clarifies the reason for everything and the solution of every reason. The main cause of the suffering is the desire. How much we get in our life, we want more and more. The chain of gaining will not over. There are unlimited desires in human mind. The human can’t be satisfied with the worldly affairs, world’s achievement. There are limited resources to fulfill our desires but we have unlimited desires so the available resources can’t fulfill our desires. The nature of desire is like a pot where we can’t put anything because it doesn’t have the lower part so from where everything can fall.

  1. There is the way to be free from the suffering: There is the way to be free from the suffering. Buddha’s teaching is very scientific because he raised the hypothesis that there is suffering in this world and at the end, he gave the exact solution of the hypothesis. Now, we have the hope that we can be free from all the sufferings of the world. It is in our hand to be free from all the sufferings. If we want, we can be free from all the pains and discomforts.

  1. The way of the freedom of the suffering is eightfold path: If we practice the eightfold path, we can be free and get the liberation from the suffering of the world. They are the real solutions to our life’s suffering. They are the Real Techniques to be totally free from the desires of our life.

Yoga In Nepal

Eightfold Path:

Right View:  View means the attitude. We have to see anything that that thing is real. In a simple way, we see what we want to see. We don’t have to judge anything by our perspective. We think that death is the end of our life, which is the main cause of the fear in our life. Fear creates suffering. We have to know everything in their real existence.

Right Resolution: This is the second step of the eightfold path. In this step, we take the right resolution of our mental development. We take firm determination to love all the being of the world. We focus on being polite to others and to be sincere when we behave with others.

Right Speech:  We have to speak the truth all the time. Speaking truth can lead us to the higher level in the path of liberation. If there is something harmful matter to others, we don’t have to speak. We don’t have to speak the false because false is not the way of liberation. False is not the part of the higher source.

Right Action:  We don’t have to perform the action that is not right. We have to analyze whether it is right or not before we do anything. We don’t have to harm to others by our action. We don’t have to suffer others by our action.

Right Livelihood:  We have to live with the minimal things that we need to live. We don’t have to collect more than we need. We don’t have to do the profession, which is the harm to others.

Right effort:  We have to try to change our habits or we have to try to be better and better. We have to be able to change our overall factors of life from negative to positive. We have to be bold to be better.

Right Mindfulness:  We have to try to be aware every moment. We don’t have to lose the awareness because the awareness can lead us to the higher source. We have to be guided by the real knowledge rather than the false knowledge. We have to develop our mind to accept the higher source of knowledge.

Right concentration or Meditation:  We have to practice the meditation of four types. To unite our self to the higher source, we have to practice the meditation. In this state, we are free from the ego. We are able to understand the natural state of our life. The flow of life can be seen in this state.

Pancasila:

  1. Not killing
  2. Not stealing
  3. To be away from sensual (including sexual) misconduct
  4. Not lying
  5. Not to be in the state of intoxication

Different branches of Buddhism are as follows:

Theravada: Theravada Buddhism is the branch of traditional Buddhism. It is the oldest form of Buddhism. It believes that the original Buddhism is the pure Buddhism. It focuses on the learning the teachings of Buddha and doing the meditation. It is a very powerful concept that we have to search the wisdom.

Vajrayana:  Vajrayana is thebranch of Buddhism which believes in Tantra. Tibetan Buddhism is in this category. We have to start our spiritual practice with a much matured Guru.

Meaningful Life by Spirituality

Meaningful Life by Spirituality

Meaningful life by spirituality means the life with full of happiness, full of joyfulness, full of satisfaction, full of positivity, full of eagerness, full of enjoyment and the life without stress and problems. We can have our desired meaningful life by spirituality. This is a very beautiful aspect of living in this world. We can get a blissful life in total, the perfect life, nothing to gain and nothing to lose.

Life gives us an opportunity to choose the best part. If we can choose the right part of our life, we can achieve the goal of human being. To utilize our life we have to understand the meaningful life by spirituality, the real aspects of our life.

Every moment of our life can bring us the beauty of living. Every second can give us extreme relaxation and satisfaction. There is not any category of a meaningful life in the materialistic world but in the world of spirituality, we can achieve the perfection of life, the reality of life by walking in the Godly good path. The path is not of the busy one, rushing one, competent one. But the path is natural, beautiful and real. The path of meaningful life by spirituality is finding oneself, entering into the self, purifying the body and the mind, loving the self, working without expecting anything in return and having the blissful life.

There is a saying that “The moment when we get up can be the early morning.” The saying symbolizes the fact that whenever we become aware of the truth, that every time can be the best time to achieve a breakthrough and drastic transformation in our life. If you want to start a new life, then this very moment is the right time to do so. Most of the people wait for the best time to start but there will not come the best time better than this moment. The first important factor of our life is to know about the meaningful life by spirituality.

“What is a meaningful life?” is the question which has been asking for ages by many human beings. Meaning of life is to be satisfied with our own actions in our life, to be happy with the situation where we are. When we understand the real knowledge about what is good and what is bad, we can choose the best part of our life by our action.

Spirituality, a way of happy life

When love starts to govern in our life then the real spirituality begins to empower us. When we do our work with more skillfully and with full of attention, we can be in the direction of the beauty of our life. When we start to worry about the problems of others and ready to solve them, we have to remember that we are in the direction of our life where the path leads us to a meaningful life by spirituality.

It takes no time to change. If you realize that you are not satisfied where you are going, you can change your direction right now and right here. It is not the factor of changing your lifestyle but it is the changing of your way of thinking and your perspective of seeing the world and you can change it in a second when you become aware of your present situation. Life is very beautiful but we should have those eyes which can see the beautiful aspects of our life.

If you feel some insufficient in your life, you can search another way of living. The other way of living is the spiritual one which is different from the materialistic world. This spiritual path is the path of the natural way of being.

We human beings are the most intellectual creature of the world. The evolution of the technology is facilitating the world but there is lack of spirit, lack of life which is leading us to uncertainty. In this situation, we have to add the spiritual part in our development. It is necessary to develop the world from outside and it is also important to understand the meaningful life by spirituality to satisfy human mind.

We should secure the right of the people to nurture mentally. To start the journey of the soul never becomes late. We can start from now, at this very moment. Life’s real beauty can be found in the spiritual journey. Loving the self is the starting point of meaningful life by spirituality. When we start to love the self, we automatically respect others. We can understand the ego which is stopping us to be a real human being.

Our life’s irony is that we search the happiness where there is not the source of happiness. The source of real happiness is inside us. Spiritual journey inspires us to find the happiness within us. When we learn to go inside us, we start to understand the real meaning and purpose of life. Spirituality encourages us to see the positive aspects of our life. The journey enables us to have a wonderful experience in our life. This gives us the real satisfaction in life and that would be the meaningful life by spirituality.

Please, awake now and start your real journey to the world of beauty and humanity, love and affection, repose and relaxation, passion and courage, inspiration and positivity. You can find this world very beautiful and livable, so meaningful to live by helping the people grow up.

Heaven is not any place where we will go but heaven is this very moment and the very place where we are. We can make this world as a haven land by spreading the positive vibe to the betterment of this mother earth. This is the time to be changed, to be free from all the problems of our life. If we choose to make a meaningful life by spirituality, we can have the life we prefer.

The journey towards the perfection is the best choice of our life. It is on our hand which way we choose. When spiritual life becomes our lifestyle, no materialistic things can attract us. We can be satisfied without getting anything, without praising by anyone. There will be nothing to get, nothing to achieve, nothing to lose. Everything changes in a moment with our thinking pattern when we choose the meaningful life by spirituality.
